Curtin University creative writing PhD student Ruth McIver from the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry has won The 2018 Richell Prize for Emerging Writers for a novel she wrote as part of her thesis. Her novel I shot the Devil beat over 650 other entries and was described by the judges as ‘“a dark and unforgettable literary noir” written by “an emerging writer of considerable literary talent”. The Richell Prize awards $10,000 and a 12-month mentorship with Hachette Australia to assist emerging writers to develop their creative careers.
