The Australian Government House of Representatives Communications and the Arts Committee has released its plan to assist the arts and cultural sector recovery from the impact of COVID and previous bushfires. The Federal Government has established a new taskforce who will provide advice and direction to the Government’s plans to rebuild the arts sector post-COVID-19 in partnership with government and the Australia Council. The Taskforce will be chaired by Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

Expressions of interest are invited from the visual and performing arts and creative writing for the 2020 Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship. The Fellowship, supported by the Australian Network for Art and Technology will enable the successful fellow to travel to Australian research stations on the Antarctic continent or on sub-Antarctic

Australian PM Scott Morrison has announced a reshuffle of his cabinet. While Dan Tehan remains Minister for Education, there is a new face fronting the arts portfolio. Former Arts Minister Mitch Fifield is expected to take up a diplomatic posting and Paul Fletcher will be appointed as Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety

The Australian National Audit Office has commenced an audit of the ARC’s performance in administration of the National Competitive Grants Program and invites public contributions related to the specific questions of its terms of reference: Do the NCGP guidelines align with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines (CGRGs) and government

The government has released a report announcing ways to better support students. ‘Improving retention, completion and success in higher education’, produced by the Higher Education standards panel recommends improved guidance to students on enrolment and career choices as well as improved institutional strategies to address student wellbeing and associated benchmarks.

The Australian Research Council has announced a full review of the current ANZSRC classifications, which include Type of Activity, Field of Research (FOR) and Socio Economic Objective.
