The European Alliance for Culture and the Arts, a network of over 200 organisations connected with the cultural sector in Europe, have issued a call to European institutions and European union members to put culture and arts at the centre of national and EU priorities. Their manifesto highlights the essential contributions that the arts make to: European values and human rights; Economic benefits and growth noting that in France, for example the ‘cultural GDP’ is seven times larger than the automotive industry; Education; Social cohesion; Migration and citizenship; Innovation; Health and Wellbeing; regional and urban development; External relations and neighbourhood policy; and International cooperation and development.
