What is the DDCA?

The DDCA is the peak representative body for the creative arts in Australian tertiary institutions. Our mission is to advance the culture of scholarship in the creative arts higher education sector, offer strong leadership and advocacy for strategic development, and advocate more broadly for the role of the creative arts in society and its cultural value in shaping, leading and impacting communities.

We aim to serve as a consultative and reliable advisory body in common matters relating to creative arts disciplines in (and beyond) Australia, identifying and responding to issues in the creative arts, particularly as they relate to the tertiary education sector.

A key goal is to promote equality and diversity in the leadership of creative practice in higher education, an objective which informs our Strategic Plan.

DDCA Strategic Plan 2023-2027

The arts and culture are recognised as an integral element of wellbeing for First Nations people and communities. The DDCA acknowledges the significant place of First Nations knowledges and truth telling within the national creative research landscape, and seeks to promote recognition of the link between the arts and wellbeing for everyone.

As an essential part of our Strategic Plan, we aim to promote First Nations leadership in tertiary level creative arts, including highlighting the intersection of the arts and wellbeing.

We are therefore seeking a First Nations creative leader to join our Executive Board in 2024, to become a member of DDCA’s leadership team and bring vital perspectives and knowledges into its operations connecting creative art higher education with industry and broader community sectors

This is an identified role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.‍

Executive Board Role and Responsibilities

The DDCA Board is comprised of ten leaders with a range of skills and experiences, who represent creative arts-based schools, faculties and/or institutions across Australia, and who are elected to their roles by our members. Board Members serve a period of two years, with the option of renewing. No Board Member serves for more than three consecutive terms.

Read more about our current leadership here: DDCA Board Members

Board meetings are held around five times per year (virtually) to discuss issues and implement actions designed to advance the interests of the creative arts sector. We also hold virtual and in-person symposiums, workshops and events to drive new initiatives and support emerging leaders across the sector.

Board members attend an Annual General Meeting, held either virtually or in person, where eligible members can renominate themselves and vote for new members, and where we review our Strategic Plan.
