UK academic Professor Paul Gladston has been appointed as the inaugural Judith Neilson Chair of Contemporary Art at the University of New South Wales. Professor Gladston, a world expert in Chinese contemporary art and culture, is relocating from his position as Professor of Contemporary Visual Cultures and Critical Theory and Director of the Centre for Contemporary East-Asian Cultural Studies at the University of Nottingham.
The Chair of Contemporary Art, established by a philanthropic gift of $6 million by White Rabbit gallery founder Judith Neilson, will create new knowledge and understanding of the global significance of contemporary art and gains access to the White Rabbit collection, one of the world’s most important collections of contemporary Chinese art. Professor Gladston will take up his appointment at UNSW in May 2018.
