Australia’s oldest continually operating theatre and an early 20th century garage will provide the centrepiece of The University of Tasmania’s proposed new creative and cultural precinct for Hobart. The university plans to redevelop the historic Theatre Royal to include new performance and research spaces and house a new conservatorium of music.
‘The Hedberg,’ as the precinct will be called, is a $90 million cultural and performing arts initiative funded by the University, State and Federal government and is due for completion in 2019. The development will form part of a suite of university precincts in downtown Hobart for medical sciences, the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies and ‘potentially, a STEM precinct”
