‘Creativity in Crisis’: New report on Australia’s arts and entertainment industry

A new report by Alison Pennington and Ben Eltham from the Centre for Future Work at the Australia Institute focuses on the crisis facing the arts and entertainment industry as a result of COVID.  ‘Creativity in Crisis: Rebooting Australia’s Arts and Entertainment Sector After COVID’ analyses a spectrum of government responses that have served to position the creative arts industry in its current precarious position.  They highlight the various changes in higher education funding have disrupted the ‘Arts Sector Skills Pipeline’ noting the impacts of the ‘job ready graduates’ package and ongoing university funding reductions which have already seen cuts and closures of creative arts programs and argue that the justification used for the reallocation of support to STEM disciplines is not borne out by the data.
