A new report produced by the National Endowment for the Arts and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis highlights the economic impact of COVID on the arts and culture sector in the US. It notes that the performing arts were one of the hardest hit areas of the US economy suffering significant declines in employment. “Between 2019 and 2020, the arts economy shed more than half a million jobs … not counting self-employed artists and other cultural workers,” with motion picture and video production, performing arts presenting and performing arts companies comprising 40% of this decline.
