University of Melbourne Southbank Open Day

University of Melbourne announces the Southbank Open Day: “As part of the Victorian College of The Arts 50th Celebrations, we are excited to open the doors to the Victorian College of the Arts and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music as part of Open House Melbourne.

We welcome you to explore our galleries, teaching and performance spaces with self-guided and guided tours on Saturday 30 July. These include the Martyn Myer Arena (the former Police Riding Hall); The Stables is the heritage-listed former home of the Victoria Police Mounted Branch. Designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, it was re-opened as the visual arts wing of the VCA in 2018, featuring 170 studios and flexible exhibition spaces; The Ian Potter Southbank Centre is the home of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, designed by John Wardle Architects and opened in 2019. It features state-of-the-art teaching, learning and performance spaces, an impressive feature of which is the oculus window in Kenneth Myer Auditorium; and The Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery (formerly Margaret Lawrence Gallery) was designed by Six Degrees Architects in 2001. It is an influential curatorial space featuring a diverse program of local, national and international artists at all stages of their careers. For Open House Melbourne, visitors are welcome to view the Rashid Rana: Beauty Lies exhibition.”
