Newcastle’s Critical Animals symposium will take place this year at The Lock Up in Newcastle as part of the “This is not Art” festival. The symposium, which brings together students, researchers, writers, artists, academics and thinkers that are involved in creative and experimental art practices, will focus on the topics of emotion, gender, social change, and indigeneity. Other Critical Animals events include a performance lecture about dolphins and utopic mutation research, experimental dance performances, research paper presentations, a work of physical theatre, a workshop on developing sound and effective artistic-political praxis, and Emma Fielden’s solo exhibition An Immeasurable Distance.
