Sarah Brooke Miller – Member of the Order of Australia

Professor Sarah Brooke Miller has received an AM for significant service to the performing arts through research, education and advisory roles.

Sarah is Professor of Performance at the University of Wollongong, where she was the inaugural Head of the School of the Arts, English and Media (2013-2018), Associate Dean Research and Contemporary Practice (2011-2013) and Head of the School of Music and Drama (2008-2011).

She has extensive governance experience in both the university and not for profit arts sector, and her background as both Artistic and Executive Director of two of Australia’s leading contemporary arts organisations: the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (1994-2006) and Performance Space, Sydney (1989-1993), has seen her  providing expert advice to a range of government and statutory bodies including the Australian Research Council, the Office of Learning and Teaching, and the Australia Council for the Arts: the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, as well as state funding agencies in NSW and Western Australia.

For the Australia Council, she was a Ministerial appointee to the Theatre Board (2005-2008), a member of the Drama Committee (1991-1993), a founding member of the Hybrid Arts Committee (1994), an external peer for the New Media Arts Board (1996) and for Theatre (November 2017).

From 1994-2004, she was the state-based editor (WA) for RealTime Arts. She was awarded the prestigious 2003 Sidney Myer Performing Arts Facilitator’s Award.
